Meetup 029: Soliloquies

Last weekend, we had one of our regular members and a favorited fan of WC, Malavika hosting a session. The concept of soliloquies goes a long way in touching everybody’s thinking pots. By definition, a soliloquy, for the uninformed, is a discourse by a person who is talking to himself or herself or is oblivious to any hearers present. Soliloquies are often used as a device in drama to disclose a character’s innermost thoughts)

Soliloquies allow the audience to read into their thoughts and state of mind.  As a result, the soliloquy is a technique that Shakespeare used during his time to convey to the reader that his characters are all too human.

The Exercise:

Write a soliloquy, basing on the character and situation prescribed as part of the selected prompts. You could also write a soliloquy of your own on a complex fictional situation. The moving yet challenging topic brought out some really amazing narrations written, mandatorily in first person.

See you guys, next weekend, when we have more fun, more writing on another interesting theme! As always, please feel free to share your feedback on the theme and meetup, in the comments section.
